  Cancer is a general name for diseases of uncontrolled cellular growth. New paradigms of treatment and management of side effects have improved survival rates and quality of life of many patients, but resistance to treatments is still difficult to handle. In my lab we use a simulation-based approach to try and understand drug resistance in cancers. Molecular dynamics simulations are used to deal with resistance at the protein-residue level, whereas knowledge-based simulations are used to study modifications at the protein level or higher.

  Another subject of interest of the lab is the application of theoretical, physical-chemistry based methods to biology and chemistry. Examples that we studied in the recent years include protein energy relaxation modes, passive drug transfer, and the dilution of whisky, which will be briefly discussed as well.



  Ran Friedman obtained his Biology Bachelor degree within 5 semesters from Tel Aviv University in 2001. He earned his PhD in Biochemistry (field of study: theoretical biophysics) also from Tel Aviv University in 2006.  Then he took up his postdoctoral research on Computational Structural Biology at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Zürich from 2006 to 2010. In 2010, he joined Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden, as an associated senior lecturer (assistant professor). Since 2014, he has been a senior university lecturer (associated professor) at Linnaeus University, and a research group leader, member of the Linnaeus University Centre of Excellence for Biomaterials Chemistry.
