摘 要:
I
will talk about new bioluminescence-based technologies and our recent
work on engineering organisms with self-sustained luminescence, in
particular, autoluminescent plants. We have recently discovered the
genes and molecules responsible for bioluminescence of tropical fungi.
The fungal bioluminescence system converts caffeic acid, a metabolite
present in all plants, into luciferin. We introduced the fungal
molecular pathway into the plants, generating glow-in-the-dark
transgenic tobacco plants with self-sustained luminescence visible to
the naked eye. We hope that this technology could underpin development
of a suite of imaging tools for plants.
报告人简介:
Karen
Sarkisyan completed his PhD on fluorescent protein development with
Konstantin Lukyanov and Alexander Mishin at the Institute of Bioorganic
Chemistry in Moscow and then worked on protein evolution with Fyodor
Kondrashov at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona and
Institute of Science and Technology in Vienna. In 2018, Karen moved to
the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences to start his lab.
Karen′s
lab work focuses on several research directions, both basic and
applied, from studying the structure-function relationship in proteins
to engineering bacterial strains that can perform directed evolution
without human involvement. They approach these and other problems from
the perspective of synthetic biology, investing time into automation of
molecular biology routines and creating new molecular technologies for
light-based computation and cell communication.
