The International Conference on "Quantitative Biology 2019: Dynamic Signaling in Cells and Embryos", co-sponsored by the Center for Quantitative Biology (CQB) of Peking University and Yantai University, was successfully held at Dongshan Hotel, Yantai, Shandong Province from June 22nd to 24th. The conference was organized by Prof. Chao Tang, Prof. Feng Liu, and Prof. Yihan Lin from Peking University, Prof. Michael B. Elowitz from Caltech, USA, and Prof. Yibao Chen and Prof. Xuran Wu from Yantai University. The president of Yantai University, Professor Shanli Guo, and associate directors of CQB, Prof. Qi Ouyang and Prof. Luhua Lai attended the conference.

The conference invited 26 experts in the field of quantitative biology to deliver talks on the frontier of dynamic signaling in cells and embryos. These experts came from China, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Israel, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. A total of 267 researchers worldwide attended the conference, and participated in diverse conference activities, including invited and contributed talks, poster presentations, and group discussions.

The conference focused on the topic of "Dynamic Signaling in Cells and Embryos", including recent advances and frontier applications in gene regulation models, synthetic biology, biomechanics, embryo morphogenesis, fluorescent probes, single-cell sequencing, quantitative imaging technology and automated imaging and image processing. The participants actively participated in warm discussions, greatly promoting scientific exchanges and collaborations in related fields. In the “career discussion” session, professors shared their study and work experiences, and answered questions regarding work-life balance, paper writing, and many others. During this session, the students and faculties also actively discussed the international nature of scientific research.

After three days of diverse academic events and activities, the conference finally came to a successful conclusion. The poster committee selected 2 ‘Best Poster Awards’ and 8 ‘Excellent Poster Awards’, which were delivered during the award ceremony.

This conference is an international academic event in the field of quantitative and systems biology. The Center for Quantitative Biology will continue to adhere to the principle of scientific freedom and openness, and promote international scientific collaborations in the field of quantitative biology.
