Welcome

Systems Biology is a newly emerging and fast growing field. By integrating biological sciences with mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science and engineering, systems biology seeks to gain a more quantitative, more holistic and deeper understanding of biological systems.

The Joint Symposium on Systems Biology between Peking University (PKU) and University of Toronto (U of T) will be held on Oct 19-21, 2012 in Beijing, China. Aiming to explore mutual interests and to develop future collaborations, the symposium is co-organized by PKU Center for Quantitative Biology (CQB), PKU Institute of Systems Biomedicine (ISB), and the Department of Molecular Genetics (MoGen) at University of Toronto.

We cordially invite you to participate in this joint event, and look forward to welcoming you in Beijing.

CQB, formally Center for Theoretical Biology, was established on September 17, 2001. CQB’s mission is to promote research, education, international exchange and collaboration at the interface of physical and biological sciences and to become an international center for the emerging interdisciplinary field of Systems Biology. CQB has its own graduate program and its faculty members are from various disciplines such as physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and engineering.

ISB was established in June, 2010 as an initiative to tackle cancer using modern technology and systems biology. Through two years’ unremitting efforts, the eight research platforms have been created, including genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, biomedical computing, molecular genetics, structural biology, drug discovery and translational medicine. Based on the advantages of this multi-disciplinary approach and the international influence of Peking University, we believe that PKUISB will become an international institute and ultimately lead to advances with great success in basic research and translational medicine.

MoGen, The Department's major strength is its diverse Faculty who run a remarkable variety of world-class research programs in areas ranging from molecular microbiology and model organism genetics to human genetics. MG’s Faculty have made widely recognized contributions in a variety of research areas and have been the recipients of numerous national and international awards.
